I’ve shared about seeing my grandparents praying early in the morning, before any of us kids or grandkids would be waking up…
…but I also have to admit that it is hard to wake up before the rest of my family.
My kids will wake up anytime between 5:30am and 9am.
Most often, they will wake up around 8am - but the consistency leaves much to be desired.
Plus, if you’ve ever had a newborn, good luck with your schedule.
…All this to say: finding the right time to pray…actually depends on YOU rather than a magical time when God listens and speaks more than others.
…
I wake up every morning and (if there isn’t anything pressing, like a screaming child, drawing my attention away) I recite The Lord’s Prayer. Mostly in my head. Sometimes out loud.
Other than that, my practice is to pray anytime and every time I am reminded of prayer. If only for a moment.
I also pray every time I sit down to write these newsletters.
I am notoriously bad about praying with people, my family included. (More on that some other time)
But, Jesus prayed morning, noon, and night. As well as at meals. And as well as at random times at all hours of the day and night.
So, it looks like the best time to pray…is all the time.
…but more on routines and triggers later on…
My prayer for today
Our Father, keep our hearts, minds, and ears open for the gentle reminders you give us to seek relationship with you. Amen.
Remember
If something reminds you to pray, then pray. Easy peasy. Don’t make a big deal of it, but try it out. And, better yet, let me know how it goes.
