I promise you, there isn’t anyone who is going to get to their deathbed and say, “I wish I had spent less time in prayer with God.”
Not a one.
And, yet, if I can be so bold as to call everyone out, we all think and complain about how much it sucks to take time to pray.
big ouch
I feel a little called out, actually, and I wrote it!
Jesus, depending on how you count it, went off to go pray about 38 times in the New Testament. Some public, some private.
And we know the common Jewish custom at the time was to pray morning, noon, and evening.
And those 38 times probably didn’t always coincide with those daily three times.
Jesus was praying a lot.
And I think the thing we miss as we pray “Rescue us from evil” in The Lord’s Prayer, is that you don’t have to constantly worry about when to pray for rescue if you are actually living a life modeled by prayer!
It’s so simple it hurts. And learning to take the steps to shape your prayer life into rhythms…it’s the best case scenario, honestly.
And I, for one, am proud of you for taking the time to read what I have to say 5 days a week to shape your life around prayer.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Proud of you.
My prayer for today
Our Father, help me stop whining about spending time in prayer. And, Spirit, nudge me a little bit harder so I stop and pray as you call on me. And guide each of us as we work towards a life shaped by prayer. Amen.
Remember
Our prayer life improves around rhythms, genuine rhythms. Maybe start praying regularly in the morning, at noon, or at night. Nothing big. But a guaranteed time in your day to pause and pray—maybe even recite The Lord’s Prayer, yeah?
