Why The Lord's Prayer specifically?
Because all the prayers in scripture can be summarized within a few lines of prayer.
This is a bit of a teaser for my book on The Lord’s Prayer, but one of them ideas behind it actually comes from the work of a WWII German theologian named Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Bonhoeffer believed that the Psalms encompassed every broadstroke of prayer that can be found in life.
And The Lord’s Prayer boils down all the prayers of the Psalms into a few short lines.
So, why The Lord’s Prayer? Why pray it daily?
Because it contains the prayers of everything and everyone throughout all of human history.
Because this was the prayer of Jesus, who is God, given to us so that we might pray to God in “right relationship” (in a way that strengthens our relationship with God).
And who knows how to best pray to God besides Godself through the Son? 😉

Our Father, help me never forget that you want relationship with us and you have given us the tools to do exactly that. Amen.
