This is a topic far bigger than can be covered in 3 minutes or less…
…but let’s at least get the conversation started.
…
What is the point of prayer?
To get what you want?
To appease God somehow?
To get something off your chest?
I’m going to pause for a few seconds here so you can come up with an answer.
…
Okay, now, let’s offer a different point of view.
Prayer has very little to do with you…and very little to do with God…
Because prayer has everything to do with all God’s people.
It’s not that God needs your prayers or that you will get what you want because you pray.
It is the primary method by which God interacts with God’s people and how God’s people can bond and build relationship with God.
And you are one of many of God’s people whom God craves relationship with (and that God craves for you to have relationship with one another…if that makes sense).
Your prayer life is less about you or God…but about your part of God’s relationship with God’s people and God’s people’s relationships with God.
It is about community. And communion.
And we can talk more about what that means later.
My prayer for today
Our Father, don’t let us forget that we are never in this alone. We are one of many of God’s people…and that you want nothing more than intimate relationship with all of us and all of us to have intimate relationship with one another. Amen.
Remember
When you realize that your prayer life isn’t just about you and not just about God but something greater than those individual parts…it can feel limiting…but also empowering to know that your individual prayer life has impact beyond just yourself! Think on that for a bit. And, if you strongly disagree, I’d love to chat more. So hit reply and let me know what you think.
