This has been a heavy week, so I want to focus on the practical side of things today.
In America, we are consumed by the idea that we are all individuals and need to have everything curated just for us…
…but none of us truly belong to only ourselves.
Your every action affects someone else.
Whether we like it or not, the nature of being human means we are meant for community and communion.
And we are at our absolute best when we are in authentic relationships, in true community, and in holy communion.
No matter what science or religion you throw at humans, one thing remains the same: we are at our best when we are in community with others.
People were never meant to be individuals un-tethered to anything or anyone else.
And when it comes to prayer, we really are at our best together.
So if you want to grow in your prayer life, pray with people, for people, over people.
And watch your prayer life thrive and improve.
My prayer for today
Our Father, help us keep the main thing…the main thing. We are meant to be in communion and community with you and with others. Spirit, show us how we can be support and encouragement and love to those who desperately need it. Amen.
Remember
The heart of prayer is in our connectedness. And the point of prayer is in improving and strengthening those relationships—with God and with God’s people. So find someone to pray with today. Just for a minute. Or more!
