I love it when two completely unrelated things feed into one another.
Recently, the Pokemon company came out with a new app game called Pokemon Sleep, which focuses on capturing Pokemon while you sleep!
The longer you sleep and the better your sleep, the more Pokemon you can attract and be able to catch.
But I don’t normally sleep super well.
I tend to be on my phone for a few hours before bed.
But now…I put my phone to bed around 11pm or 11:30pm (which is very early for me - I’m usually up until 1 or 2am). This maximizes how many Pokemon I can catch…but it also means I’m not on my phone before bed.
And this has correlated with me being able to make time for intentional prayer before bed.
My nighttime routine has been more intentional because I’m not doomscrolling for 3 hours a night.
And when I put my phone to bed I end up having better quality sleep, feel tired earlier, and can make more intentional use of my evenings before bed.
This has made my sleep so much better.
And my prayer life has felt so much stronger.
Which leads me to this point: rest and prayer go hand in hand, one makes the other stronger and vice versa.
So try putting your phone to bed before you go to bed and make the most of that time before your head hits the pillow.
My prayer for today
Our Father, thank you for allowing unrelated things to become lessons, it’s such a neat experience. Jesus, help us rest well and rest easy. Spirit, infuse our sleep with a peace we can only understand by resting in you. Amen.
Remember
You don’t have to use a game to put your phone to bed. Just plug it in a few hours before you usually go to bed and leave it alone. Don’t come back to it. In those evening hours before sleep, I promise you there isn’t much you are going to miss out on.
