My daughter, Claire, taught us a song she would sing at snack time at her Christian preschool.
And my youngest wanted to learn it, too.
And, while I sometimes get annoyed at the silly songs and things people make up to try and teach kids things…
…I liked this one.
Here it is in text (you can listen to the voiceover above to hear me try and sing it):
“God, we thank you
God, we thank you
For our food
For our food
Yes, we thank you
Yes, we thank you
AaaAh-men, AaaAh-men”
It’s simple.
It’s fun to sing.
It’s easy to teach.
And it reminds us to be thankful for what God has provided for us.
Better yet, it reminds us to play and have joy when we pray.
And that’s a beautiful thing that is easy to miss, especially into adulthood.
And having tiny fun rituals like these can go a long way to teaching bigger truths. Not just to kids, but to us adults, too.
Plus, we could all use a little more fun and silliness in our life every now and then.
My prayer for today
Our Father, help each of us to remember to have fun and enjoy our time in prayer with you. And thank you for goofy, funny reminders to pray. Amen.
Remember
I dare you to try and sing this song next time you eat. Don’t just pray for your food, but sing over it. And have fun with it!
And bonus points if you have or can make up any other songs to help you remember to pray and create rituals for prayer.
