When I was growing up, I never thought that much about money.
My mom and dad worked a LOT and worked hard to make sure we had everything we needed, but also just about everything we wanted.
I had my own desk in my room, an Xbox and Xbox 360, my own laptop, every Nintendo handheld device known to man, every Pokemon game and several of the guides and compatible devices to go with them, my own bookshelf, tons of books, more than enough clothes…
…you get what I’m saying…
My parents made sure that my sister and I were well-provided for.
Now, being a parent myself, I keep thinking about how I am able to provide for my kids.
And, if I am being brutally honest with myself, I’m not doing a great job at it.
They have all they need (and a lot of what they want). But, my wife and I feel the struggle to get them provided for…because our finances are just tight.
Then again…maybe my parents felt the same.
But, all of this has led me to being proficient in my ability to rely on God financially.
And I have shared the $.11 in my bank account fiasco…and the decision to switch careers (twice now)…and, more recently, I’ll share about how all of my bills are getting paid late while my business recovers from the fallout of losing so many clients during 2023.
The point is, I know what it’s like to look at your bank account, all your bills, and not be able to figure out how all the ends will be met.
But God provides.
In strange and unexpected ways, God provides.
Through a friend randomly sending you a Kroger gift card to someone writing you a check to (true story here) you paying off a bill only for the money to never come out but the creditor considering the bill already paid.
Those are just a few random ways I have personally seen God provide for me and my family, financially, when things weren’t great.
And I continue to rely on God, and to pray for that reliance on God.
My prayer for today
Our Father, thank you for your provision in my life up to today. Jesus, thank you for all the ways you will provide for my financial needs today. Spirit, help me rely on you when the math isn’t adding up. Amen.
Remember
Relying on God financially doesn’t mean you need to be poor…it just means recognizing that, no matter your income, you know where that financial stability comes from.
