I don’t think anyone would argue that you shouldn’t be praying for the people you love.
But, I was reminded of what is known as “The High Priestly Prayer” of Jesus in John 17…
…Jesus specifically talks about how he has prayed for the disciples because he loves them. And that, more specifically, he isn’t praying just a blanket prayer for all believers.
No, he is simply praying for those in his care, his disciples.
And that’s okay. Because Jesus deeply loved them and knew them specifically in his earthly life.
And, by modeling this prayer, Jesus is telling us that we can pray for those whom we love, too.
Without guilt or shame about how we could be praying for “something” more important.
No. Jesus teaches us that praying for those whom we love is important. It is critical.
It is crucial to be thankful for and pray for our loved ones simply because they are loved by us. And that has it’s own importance.
So cling tightly to your loved ones and pray for them in gratitude to your Father in heaven.
My prayer for today
Our Father, thank you for my loved ones. Thank you for Claire. Thank you for Charlotte. Thank you for Kaila. And thank you for my first family, my mom, dad, and sister. Spirit, remind me often how blessed I am and bring me to my knees in prayer. Amen.
Remember
Stop right now and pray a prayer of gratitude for your lobed ones, at least one of them. It doesn’t even have to be specific. Just a simple, “thank you for ____”
