It always seems like it sneaks up on us…the school year has already started for some and will start soon for others.
Now, whether or not you have kids or kids in school, this is an important time of year for all of us.
We all have had teachers, we all have been to some type of school at some time in our life. This means we all have some personal connection with what it means to go “back to school.”
For myself, this is the year my oldest starts Kindergarten.
And I am simultaneously so excited and also heartbroken……..
I can’t believe my little girl is growing up and starting school.
For parents in my position, this is the beginning of me giving up a lot of my control over how my child will be raised. She will now be shaped and molded by others in a way that I can’t hope to influence in any significant way.
If you have older children, this begins the next cycle and season of life.
If your kids have grown, then this season of life might lose meaning a little bit (for a time, until or unless you have grandchildren).
And, if you are like me, you’re reading “back to school” (in a life before kids) and just roll your eyes.
“Why do I care about kids going to school???”
Because you may have friends who are teachers, friends and family who are parents, etc. So, if it doesn’t affect you directly, it likely affects someone you know personally.
And praying for the beginning of the school year is vital for all of us.
And when you wrap your mind around that fact that the rhythms of the school year has an effect on many things in your life, then you start to realize why it might be important to pray for “back to school stuff.”
My prayer for today
Our Father, give grace to those who need it this school year. Guide students in their studies and teachers in their work. Spirit, may you work mightily in the lives of those who are affected by this season of life. Amen.
Remember
You are always going to be impacted by the school year cycle, so why not make it a reminder to encourage you to pray more and to pray intentionally for those you know personally affected by the “back to school” season?
