Sometimes, the best thing you can do is start something new.
This could be a new relationship, a new business strategy, or, of course, a new career.
While I’ve touched on those subjects, what I haven’t done is talk about how to know how to pray for a new start (career-wise).
From experience, I can tell you that your next career might not be your last career. So you may have to go through this process multiple times. And some of you may not ever leave your current career path or company.
My father, as an example, has spent most of his adult life working for the same company…except for the time he switched to a different company and then came back to the original company (with a big pay increase).
Sometimes those moves can be strategic.
But, as I have mentioned, the most important thing to ask yourself is, “where does God want me to work?”
If you are thinking of switching career fields entirely, then this same question applies.
And, if you’ll allow me to throw yet another wrench in the works, sometimes God genuinely gives us the choice. I think that, at a specific time in my life, I could have doubled down on ministry and probably found a role…but I didn’t feel the pull to go back into ministry right away.
So, to pray for a fresh start at a new company, new city, new career, etc. you need to pray honestly, “where does God want me? Where can I have the most kingdom impact with my skills and talents and knowledge?”
Better yet, ask those around you with some experience to pray for you and with you, too.
My prayer for today
Our Father, thank you for the times you have given me a choice in my work as well as for the times you have clearly led me to some work. Jesus, grant each of us the peace to know you are with us. Spirit, help me feel where you are leading. Amen.
Remember
Even if you aren’t considering a career change…pray about it. And then ask others to pray about your career, too. You might be surprised by what you hear in response!
