Today is the national day of prayer.
And, there is no day better suited to discuss the community of prayer.
Jesus teaches us in The Lord’s Prayer to pray to “Our Father.”
Jesus teaches us in The Lord’s Prayer to pray for God to “Give us today the food we need.”
Jesus teaches us in The Lord’s Prayer to pray that God would “Forgive us for our sins, just as we forgive those who sin against us.”
Jesus teaches us in The Lord’s Prayer to pray “Don’t let us give in to temptation, but rescue us from evil.”
Our prayers are not for any individual, but for the entire uplifting of all believers because of the work of God’s empowering Spirit living in those of us who call ourselves faithful followers of Jesus.
On today, of all days, we are called to remember that we are part of a larger community. That we never, ever pray or worship alone, even though we may be in solitude.
My prayer for today
Our Father, remind us each and every day that we are not alone as we pray, we worship, and we believe. Even in my loneliest moments…remind me that I am never truly alone. Amen.
Remember
Take time today to pray because of the National Day of Prayer, but also because it’s a great example of what it means to pray in community. Know that, today, at least, thousands if not millions of others are praying alongside you.
