Normally, I would weave in a fun story with these and grant you a nugget of wisdom.
Today, I want to jump straight in and offer a longer than usual prayer.
There is a difference between perseverance and persistence.
Perseverance kinda implies that there is a way to conquer the thing you are persevering over or through…
But persistence…persistence implies that the thing might not have an end.
Prayer has no end in sight.
It doesn’t go away.
We don’t suddenly stop praying and communing with God one day because we have achieved some level of holiness.
Prayer is a persistent act.
One we keep on practicing with the same drive, the same consistency until it becomes second nature…and then we keep doing it…
And persistence is difficult. It is the difference between a triathlon and a 100 meter dash.
My prayer for today
Our Father, we don’t always succeed at making prayer a daily habit. We don’t always stop and talk with you when the desire hits us. But you have given us a Spirit of perseverance to keep going and pushing forward. Jesus, your prayers didn’t stop at perseverance, though. You persisted in your prayers until your final breath…and then again at your resurrection. Spirit, give us the persistence of Jesus, as bold as that is to ask. We need your strength to make our prayers persistent and constant and timely. Don’t let us stop at meeting goals, let us make life changes. Amen.
Remember
There is no winner at the end of this race to pray persistently…but there is a reward. Don’t lose hope and keep praying for persistence.
