There is a reason that non-profits exist in our world.
Humans, for some reason, desire to serve others…while also being incredibly selfish.
In my humble opinion, this is purely because of the grace of God and the spark of divine creation in each of us…but that’s not what today is about.
Today is about a mourning for the pain and suffering going on every single day in our world. And a hope to pray for.
And how we fit into all of it.
I don’t need to tell you about what the world has gone through since 2020…or what is going on in the middle east at the time of this writing…or what is going on in your own hometown.
I don’t need to tell you that the world is a messed up place.
So what can we do about it? And how does prayer intersect with all of this?
In Hebrews 13, the writer tells us, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
We are reminded that, as Christians, we are to constantly be doing good, sharing with others, and sacrificing ourselves for those around us.
And when it comes to “doing good” in our world, people tend to immediately think of giving money or objects or maybe even volunteering.
But offering our prayers is our first step to doing any good in the world, especially if we believe that God hears our prayers and listens to them.
And praying for how to give of yourself to the world in need means having to have a tough conversation with yourself…
…are you willing to give things up? Are you willing to pray The Lord’s Prayer and say “may your will be done”?
My prayer for today
Our Father, I want to give of myself to people and places in need, but I find it hard sometimes. Spirit, show me if I’m holding anything back or if there is a specific need I can meet. Jesus, help remind me of the love you have for those in the world that are different than me. Amen.
Remember
Ask yourself this question and reflect on it in prayer, “Is there anything I’m not willing to give up if God asks me?” Nothing further. But do some soul-searching here.
