Earlier this week, I implied that a concern of mine when I was praying growing up was “silly.”
And, as I reflect on that, nothing is silly or trivial or pointless when it comes to asking questions about how to pray.
When you are brave enough to ask, “How do I pray?” you are willing to recognize that either:
The assumptions you have about prayer might be wrong
There is more about prayer that you might not know or understand
You realize that the way you have been taught (or have observed) to pray might not necessarily be the only way to pray…
And I want to honor those of you seeking answers.
Asking, “how do I pray” is a bold and beautiful question and I want to respect your journey! And my own…
So, while being concerned about praying in silence, journaling, or keeping your eyes closed during prayer might seem like “small details,” they are actually hugely important to the people who are genuinely asking questions about them!
So, I want to make myself abundantly clear here: all of your questions are welcome!
And, with that in mind, I want to open up the floor to you, the reader.
What questions can I answer for you?
Please hit reply and let me know (it goes directly to me) or leave a comment and ask. I’ll be sure to answer right away or address the topic in a future newsletter!
As for now, keep asking, keep growing, and never think anything is too silly or trivial to ask.
My prayer for today
Our Father, help us maintain the curiosity of young children who constantly want to know everything about everything. Jesus, grant us the boldness to ask great questions. Spirit, lay on our heart what we need to ask to grow closer with God every single day. Amen.
Remember
If you have a question about prayer, ask someone! You are always welcome to ask me, but asking someone you know personally like a pastor, someone further along than you in their faith, or a grandparent who has been following Jesus for decades might be a more personal, more impactful person to ask.
