Some people love music.
Others don’t.
And I’m not here to yuck anyone’s yum (I love this saying haha).
I have a friend who almost exclusively listens to music when they are doing any kind of mental task.
I, myself, am listening to instrumental metal music (yep, you read that right) while writing this post.
I love having background music on when I am writing or working on projects.
But, for me, I can’t have words in the music. So instrumental music only.
And when it comes to prayer, I actually have to shut everything off and stay quiet, if possible.
Some people love to listen to worship music while they pray, though, to get them in the mood and the right mindset.
And I think that is fine.
But, I also think there is something special about silence…
…however, if your “moment” happens more often with music of any sort, then go for it!
I would rather encourage people to do whatever it takes to make prayer happen more often and more authentically for them rather than say they have to do it this way.
Whatever makes your “moment” I just want you to make the most of it!
My prayer for today
Our Father, be with each of us in prayer whether we have songbirds in the background or we are cranking some lofi beats. Let us find ourselves in your presence and ready to pray and listen, no matter the circumstance. Amen.
Remember
If you find yourself distracted from praying mentally, try and put on some tunes and see what happens. And if you find yourself distracted while praying with music on, try turning it off, taking a few deep breaths, and trying again.
