I have, quite literally, written a book about how to pray using The Lord’s Prayer as our template…and I still don’t know how to pray somedays.
Prayer isn’t something we all master one day and move on.
Just like how we can always learn something new about our loved ones. It’s a relationship that continues to grow with time.
So don’t feel like you have to have it all figured out.
There are things I think back to when I reflect on a time I prayed and cringe inwardly.
“Why did I say it like that!?”
“What on earth was I thinking by praying for this!?”
It’s totally normal and natural because, if you are growing in your relationship with God, then you are naturally going to grow and evolve and learn over time.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
God just wants you to pray and listen, listen and pray.
Keep working on those two skills…and you’ll always be on the right track.
My prayer for today
Our Father, thank you for your grace in watching us stumble and blunder and still listening and being concerned for us despite our ignorance. Spirit, give us the words to speak and move us as you need. Amen.
Remember
That embarrassing time you tried to pray as a kid or fumbled a prayer out loud doesn’t matter when it comes to how “effective” those prayers were. God knows your heart even better than you do. Practice aligning your heart and your words and you’ll never go wrong.
