I am a man of many hobbies. I like to call myself a hobby hobby-ist. My favorite hobby is to have hobbies.
And the more you say the word “hobby” the less it feels like a real word and more like something my 5-year old would make up.
But, in our world of hustling and the daily grind to make ends meet, we often overlook our hobbies and our passions.
In fact, I often feel bad for indulging in all things Pokemon (I’ve been playing since I was a kid), but…referencing back to praying for our sanity (below), you need something to keep you sane.
And those passions have been put there for some reason.
I’m a firm believer that the Spirit gives us passions and those are meant to be used creatively in the world. (And I don’t necessarily mean creative as in “artsy” but more on this another time)
So we should pray for our hobbies and our passions. There is a kernel of creative spark in those hobbies and passions that God wants us to use…
…for me, Pokemon has been a great way to connect with students in my career, I’ve found that a ton of kids and teenagers and adults have some passing connection to Pokemon and it is an easy way for me to connect with them.
Your passions might have another use that you aren’t keenly aware of just yet. So pray and explore.
My prayer for today
Our Father, thank you for the gifts of our passions, interests, and hobbies. Jesus, help us find where those passions can better serve and build your Kingdom. Spirit, be with us as we participate with others in similar passions. Amen.
Remember
How do you think your passions, gifts, interests, hobbies, etc. can help advance the Kingdom of God? I’d really love it if you could let me know what you think or leave a comment for others to see how their passions might benefit the Kingdom.
