Let me be crystal clear on this one…I am no expert on marriage…
In fact, I know without a shadow of a doubt my wife could tell you that I am not an expert on marriage.
But something I can say makes a difference in a marriage is actually taking the time to pray for your spouse.
I have always been honest about my struggle of praying with people, but I do make an effort to pray for my wife.
I have these little reminders on my phone to pray for Kaila, and I actually do take a minute to pray for her when those pop up every day.
Now, I will say, I don’t often tell her or remind her of this, but sometimes I think it’s better to not know that someone is praying for you.
Otherwise, you might look for things to “get better” when it’s less about the spouse and more about you thinking of and being intentional about praying for your spouse.
Something changes when you take the time to regularly pray for another person, you tend to think of them more fondly, you want better things for them, and you are more likely to show them some extra grace.
And, in a marriage, you need a lot of grace.
My prayer for today
Our Father, I thank you for my wife, Kaila, who is an amazing woman and mom. Jesus, show her your grace and love and help to show your grace and love to her. Spirit, shut my mouth when I’m saying something that isn’t life-giving to her. Amen.
Remember
These prayers don’t have to be 10-20 minute long worship sessions. A quick breath prayer is perfect when you don’t have time for something longer.
