I’m not a Negative Nancy…I prefer to call myself a Realistic Ronald.
However, this means that I am not often super positive about how things are going to turn out. And when things are going poorly, I have a hard time remembering to stay positive.
…and pray positively…
But, there is good news for people like me!
The Lord’s Prayer forces you to pray positively whether you like it or not!
Our Father in heaven reminds us that God is a good dad, the best dad. God has been a good Father to us before and will do so again. We can only call God “Father” because we know this is true.
May your kingdom come soon reminds us of a better Kingdom that is coming, a future and current hope.
May your will be done on earth just as it is in heaven reminds us that God’s will is perfect and that we have a part to play in it. And that should feel exciting.
And my personal favorite, the one I cling to constantly, give us today the food we need, reminds me that God has provided for me every single day up to this point…so why should I think that today God won’t for some reason?
This doesn’t mean that I can find hope in every situation…I still struggle…but it does mean that I can pray positively knowing that whatever happens and whether or not my prayers are “answered”…everything is going to be okay.
My prayer for today
Our Father, thank you for providing for us and thank you for continuing to provide for us. Help me to find the hope and the bright side of situations that seem too far gone for me. Amen.
Remember
If you can’t find the bright side of a situation you are praying for, try defaulting to reciting The Lord’s Prayer. See if this prayer can help you reframe your mindset around the situation.
