If you have spent any amount of time with kids, then you know that spending a whole day with even just one kid can be exhausting.
Now, multiply that several times over and you can imagine how draining the role of teacher can be.
Some schools have 30+ children crammed into a classroom with just one teacher. If that doesn’t immediately sound like hard work to you, then I don’t know what to tell you.
Add on to that the weight of the expectations on teachers to educate our children and handle discipline and manage their various needs and…I could go on and on…
…It’s a lot…
And they aren’t in it for the money.
The act of raising a child, in any form, should be celebrated. Jesus seemed to think that children were incredibly important to his ministry. So shouldn’t we also celebrate those who invest in the lives of our children?
Praying for our teachers, whether we like them or not, whether we agree with our education system or not, has more to do with encouraging and empowering the people who spend the most time with future generations than it does paying lip service to your support for them.
I have to plug churches who do this well by intentionally assisting teachers and even having their churches pray for individual teachers throughout the school year (my church has done a great job of this).
I don’t always agree with our education system, but I truly love those who have made the choice to teach (especially now that my kid is joining their ranks).
My prayer for today
Our Father, thank you for your passion to teach that you have instilled in these individuals doing the good, difficult labor of helping raise our children. Jesus, remind us of your love for children and for those who choose to love children that aren’t even their own. Spirit, keep filling every teacher this year with the strength, energy, and patience they need to do their jobs well. Amen.
Remember
You once had a teacher, so why not reach out to a favorite teacher and offer to pray for them at the start of the school year?
