I’ve had at least one really bad boss. And I won’t share too much about why he was a bad boss, but it was rough.
If you really want to know about it, you can read about my transition out of ministry that I wrote up in a bog post from over two years ago now.
But just understand, I know what it’s like to have a toxic boss.
And that can make work difficult.
And it can stop you from feeling like you are doing any good for the Kingdom of God.
But…
Shouldn’t we pray for these bad bosses?
ugh
Trust me, I get it.
There were times I couldn’t and wouldn’t pray for my boss…
…but there have been times since my departure where I have prayed for him (and about him).
Like I mentioned long ago in an earlier post, prayer isn’t about me, you, or even God. Prayer is about Community and Communion.
So praying for that terrible boss isn’t for you. Or for them, really.
It’s for a better world…and a coming Kingdom.
My prayer for today
Our Father, thank you for the great bosses and employers we have had in our lives that help us recognize the not-so-great ones. Help us be more like Jesus to those who would rather us suffer. Spirit, guide our actions and thoughts. Amen.
Remember
It’s hard to pray for someone and be furious or agitated with them at the same time. So you may find yourself enjoying your boss a bit more as you begin to pray for them as well. Just continually pray for God to grant them the wisdom to lead well!
