This whole week I have been discussing different postures or styles of prayer.
And I haven’t even scratched the surface.
But, today, I wanted to offer a reminder of what it is prayer does for us.
And, again, there’s a lot I could say.
…
Prayer is, even more so than any amount of Scripture reading or time spent listening to sermons or small group discussion, the activity of aligning our heart with God’s heart.
Scripture helps our knowledge and wisdom.
Community orders our actions.
But only prayer can help our heart, our entire being, move in accordance with God’s will.
And until your heart is at home within the center of God’s will, you won’t be able to truly experience all God has to offer in your life.
Because, at the end of the day, faith in Jesus isn’t about fire insurance…it’s about life.
It’s not about the afterlife, but this one.
Even when things suck and everything feels miserable, there is peace and joy knowing that your heart has found its home in God’s.
And prayer aligns your heart with God’s will, God’s heart, God’s Love.
My prayer for today
Our Father, may your will be done. May we find your will to become our true “home.” Give me the patience to spend today focused on listening to what your will might be for me. And, Spirit, guide my heart home to the center of God’s will. Amen.
Remember
Prayer is a practice, and we only practice and work on a skill because we think it has a pay off in the end. With prayer, that pay off is life lived abundantly in the joy of faithfully following Jesus. So spend a minute in prayer today spent just on listening for God’s will. And, if you hear it or find it, stick to it.
