When I spent the first few nights away from my girls, I’ll be honest, I cried every night.
I was at a bachelor party for a weekend getaway and, after everyone else went to sleep, I would look at pictures or videos from the day that my wife sent to me.
And I would quietly weep.
I missed them so much. I had never been away from my youngest at that point and only once from my oldest, when she was a few months old.
And it reinforced in me my need for connecting with my children.
So I loved having those quick video calls, those Snapchats, hearing Claire’s voice on the other end of the line saying, “Hi, daddy.”
Even the briefest moments of connection were critical for me.
Maybe that is dramatic or maybe I am just too emotional.
But we all crave connection.
And don’t we crave connection even more so with the Creator God who knows us better than we know ourselves?
And this is why the idea of “breath prayers” are so important.
They are prayers that you can quickly offer up in
one
quick,
life-giving
breath.
For those moments when you simply need to take a beat and reconnect with the Spirit living in you,
with Jesus,
with God, Creator of your being.
Breathe in, breathe out, and pray.
My prayer for today
Practice a breath prayer of your own. Here is one I pray several times a day.
Spirit, use me in this moment.
Remember
Just like how a quick phone call, message, email, etc. can reconnect you with a loved one, a breath prayer can connect you with God. You wouldn’t go all day without touching base with your best friend, right? Why would you with God?
