I am a dad to two amazing little girls.
They really are the world to me.
When I became a father, praying the words, “Our Father” took on a whole new meaning for me.
And it made me think about my relationship to my father…
…my Dad and I have always been close, but I think we have moved from being father/child to friends only in recent years.
Because I finally understand how hard it is to be a dad.
…but I know not everyone has the same relationship with their dad as I have.
But bringing that baggage into our prayer life can make things difficult.
I am reminded today that everyone can have a new experience with God as their father. You may have had an absent or abusive father (you may have had a wonderful father). But God is the most perfect father you can ever imagine.
So give God a chance to be your father.
You might surprise yourself when you approach prayer with God as approaching the most perfect father (or mother, but more on this at another time) you can ever imagine.
My prayer today
Our Father, thank you for being the most perfect parental figure we could ever imagine. Help us to not just know this…but feel this. Amen.
Remember
Pray for your father today. Good, bad, gone, or worse. If not for them, then for you.
